FITAG 2026 connects amateur theater with the world
Twenty-three companies from Catalonia, Spain and six countries are participating in a new edition of the Girona International Amateur Theatre Festival.
The Girona International Amateur Theatre Festival (FITAG) has inaugurated its 26th edition with Dins el bosc , a show by the Quart Passadís company, from Sant Just Desvern, which opened the program at the Girona Municipal Theatre. The musical production brings together characters from popular tales such as Cinderella , Little Red Riding Hood , Jan and the Magic Beanstalk and Repunxó in the same story.
Under the motto 'FITAG Connection', the festival proposes until Sunday 30 August a program that claims the vitality of amateur theater and its capacity to establish connections beyond borders. In total, twenty-three companies from different parts of Catalonia and Spain, as well as six European countries, are participating.
The international dimension of FITAG is confirmed this year with the presence of groups from Anykščiai, Lithuania; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Geneva, Switzerland; Monaco; Riga, Latvia, and Yerevan, Armenia. The national representation includes companies from Alcalá de Henares, Cáceres, Zaragoza and Vigo.
The festival also maintains a strong connection with the region. The participating Catalan groups come from Arbúcies, Blanes, Calaf, Girona, Olot, Palamós, Sabadell, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Sant Gregori, Sant Just Desvern, Sant Pere Pescador and Vidreres, as well as Palma, in Mallorca.
During these days, the shows take place in various spaces in Girona and other municipalities, including Caldes de Malavella, La Cellera de Ter, Sant Gregori, Sant Pere Pescador and Vidreres. In Girona, the festival occupies facilities and spaces such as the Viader Auditorium and the patio of the Casa de Cultura of the Diputació de Girona, the Patio de les Magnòlies of the Generalitat building and the Sant Narcís Civic Center.
FITAG will once again reserve a prominent space for companies from the Girona region with FITAG Off, which for the second consecutive year will star in the closing day. On Sunday, August 30, the La Planeta theater in Girona will host four proposals: IncreiXendo , from Sant Gregori; the Dramatic Section of the Catholic Center of Olot; Traspunt Teatre, from Vidreres, and the Agrupació Teatral La Gespa, from Palamós.
