The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga has announced that, starting in the summer of 2026, more than thirty works from its permanent collection will be available in gigapixel format through Google Arts & Culture. This initiative is part of the museum's expansion of its digital presence, which aims to make art accessible to a wider audience.

Specifically, 33 artworks have been digitized using Google's Art Camera, a technology that allows for exceptional resolution, thus facilitating detailed exploration of the pieces. This project was carried out during 2025 and can now be enjoyed on the Google Arts & Culture platform, accessible to everyone.

In addition to these works, the museum will also publish a series of 20 articles analyzing some of the most outstanding pieces, beginning with Hermen Anglada-Camarasa's 'Gypsy Dance,' which is already available. The articles will provide information on the history, details, and interesting facts about the works, including pieces by great masters such as Zurbarán, Sorolla, and Fortuny.

A constantly evolving project

The Carmen Thyssen Museum's collaboration with Google Arts & Culture began in 2014, with the aim of making its works accessible to a global audience. To date, users have been able to enjoy 62 works in high resolution, including Julio Romero de Torres's 'The Fortune Teller,' which was already available in gigapixel format.

The museum has also updated its presence on Google Street View, allowing virtual tours inside the building. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote culture and art at a time when technology enables new ways to interact with works of art.

Google Arts & Culture is a platform that brings together more than 3,000 cultural institutions from 95 countries, offering an immersive way to explore the art and history of the world. With this new addition, the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga reaffirms its commitment to innovation and cultural accessibility.
