The Manresa Museum opens its doors to Cosmogony of Images. Joan Fontcuberta , an exhibition that can be visited in the Sala del Claustre from May 14 to June 28. The exhibition invites visitors to enter a visual universe where photography ceases to be a simple document to become a territory of doubt, irony and critical reflection.

The initiative is the result of the collaboration between the Manresa Museum and the Master's Degree in Management and Analysis of Artistic Heritage of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, an alliance that strengthens the link between academic research and cultural dissemination. With this proposal, the Manresa museum space becomes a laboratory of visual thought that invites us to question our way of looking at the world.

Designed as a conceptual journey rather than a chronological journey, the exhibition displays large-format photographs and documentary showcases that articulate the thinking of one of the most influential creators on the contemporary art scene: Joan Fontcuberta. The public is invited to travel through the space as if witnessing the life cycle of a photographic cosmos: images are born, acquire meaning, transform and, finally, dialogue with their own disappearance.

The proposal is organized into seven thematic axes that function as interpretative keys to the Fontcuberta universe. From creative paranoia as a tool to decipher appearances to the critique of the hidden power behind images, each section challenges the viewer about the fragility of visual truth in the contemporary era.

Among the central concepts, La pell del desig stands out, which claims photography as a living body capable of awakening physical and sensorial emotions, or El parany del diable , a reflection on the mechanisms of manipulation and authority that hide behind any seemingly innocent image. Also outstanding are Silenci cósmic , a space dedicated to incommunication and the failure of visual codes, as well as Continuum… , which addresses the phantasmagorical persistence of photography after absence and death.

The exhibition places special emphasis on the idea of the “critical vaccine”, a recurring concept in Fontcuberta’s work that defends the need to learn to look with distrust in a society saturated with images. In this sense, the show not only exhibits works, but also raises questions about the construction of credibility, the role of museums and the way in which institutions legitimize visual stories.
