The Center Can Be Everywhere: the work of Quisqueya Henríquez at the Complutense Art Center
bonart madrid - 30/03/26

From January 20 to April 26, 2026, the Complutense Art Center presents The Center Can Be Everywhere , a monographic exhibition that offers a comprehensive look at the career of Quisqueya Henríquez (Havana, 1966 – Santo Domingo, 2024), a Cuban-Dominican artist fundamental in the development of contemporary art in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The exhibition brings together a representative selection of her work, from her earliest projects to her most recent pieces, including installations, videos, collages, photographs, paintings, and performances. Through this journey, the public can explore the conceptual axes that defined her practice: the city as a space of friction and representation, a critique of Western art history, the circulation and production of images and commodities, as well as the particularities of the island context and cultural hybridity. Furthermore, Henríquez addressed stereotypes associated with the Caribbean and promoted reflection on ecological and social awareness through art.

Curated by René Morales, Isabella Lenzi, and Alfonsina Martínez, this exhibition is the most comprehensive survey of Henríquez's work ever presented in Europe. Beyond its biographical dimension, the exhibition situates his work within the narratives of global contemporary art, solidifying its relevance and international reach.
