Barcelona, a city in motion: the architecture that rethinks the urban future

Casa de l'Arquitectura de Barcelona presents the exhibition Barcelona = (Diversity + Intensity) x Complexity , which can be visited until the end of this year. A reflection on the role and philosophy of contemporary architecture, as well as the great challenges it must face: adaptation to climate change, preservation of heritage and safeguarding people's health.

The exhibition is an invitation to observe and rethink what a city is and how it is today, as well as its configuration and what makes it different from other population centers around the world, taking Barcelona, World Capital of Architecture 2026, as a prototype.

The exploration of this concept unfolds through three axes; diversity, which allows us to discover who inhabits the city; intensity, to understand how the close relationship between people and community life can generate shared responses; and the axis of complexity, which helps us to read the relationships that arise in a living Barcelona, which learns and transforms.

The result of this operation is a space open to experiencing Barcelona not as a fixed and inert image, but as a moving sequence: a city that looks at itself, questions itself and constantly reinvents itself to imagine a more just, sustainable and collective urban future.

Curated by Pau de Solà-Morales, Andreu Domingo, Eulàlia Gómez and Francesc Muñoz, the exhibition will allow us to weave with the schemes with which we understand a city, as well as delve deeper into what a city means, how it can develop and where it can evolve. All this taking into account not only the housing capacity, but the relationship of its population, lifestyles, the collective community and the evolution and integration of new technologies and ways of living in community, both with people, as well as with materials, animals and nature.
