The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) has officially opened the public call to select the new director of the institution, thus initiating a process that will define the immediate future of one of the main contemporary art centers in the country. According to the museum, the competition aims to cover the early departure of the current director, Elvira Dyangani Ose, who will leave office next April.

The decision comes after the museum's governing bodies considered the direction of MACBA incompatible with the new professional responsibility assumed by Dyangani Ose, who recently announced on her social media that she would join the Abu Dhabi Biennial. This announcement precipitated an exit that has unfolded in a complex institutional context.

The end of his term will coincide with the closing of the exhibition Projecting a Black Planet. The Art and Culture of Pan-Africa , as well as with the closure of the parallel activities linked to this project, one of the most outstanding exhibition initiatives in the museum's current programming.

Regarding the selection process, MACBA has indicated that the deadline for submitting candidacies will be 32 calendar days from the day after the official publication of the call on its website. However, the rules of the competition can already be consulted in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB).

According to the institution, the position of director involves assuming responsibility for the artistic, heritage and strategic line of the museum, as well as its institutional representation both locally and internationally. Among the main functions of the future director will be the definition of the artistic and content program, the promotion of exhibition and research projects, and the proposal of acquisitions of works that will become part of the museum's permanent collection.

The contract offered is of a senior management nature and will have an initial duration of five years. The terms of the call also provide for the possibility of a subsequent extension of up to three additional years, depending on the evaluation of the mandate and the needs of the institution.
