Pere Sauleda and the camera that reveals the soul of Sant Pol

The Sant Pol de Mar Painting Museum is hosting the new exhibition Pere Sauleda. Giving Sant Pol a View , which traces the career of one of the most emblematic photographers of the municipality in the Maresme region. Sauleda, who was trained in the 1960s, builds a bridge between the past and present of the town with his work, based on the family and collective memories of the people who live there. His photographic gaze not only captures images, but also preserves memories and emotions, revealing daily life and the events that have defined the community.

In the early years of his career, Sauleda delves into a Sant Pol that was still unexplored from a portrait point of view. Postcards from the time and protocol photographs of some institutional events existed, but there was still a wide visual territory to show: daily life, popular festivals, hidden corners and intimate moments that shaped the soul of the town. His camera becomes a tool for discovery and recording, offering a more complete and intimate perspective of local reality, beyond official and commercial images.

The trades, the architecture and the town planning of the town, the public events, the family celebrations, the festivals of the calendar and those unexpected moments that escape are captured through Sauleda's lens. It is precisely this attentive and sensitive gaze that allows us to affirm, both literally and symbolically, that Pere Sauleda shows us Sant Pol, revealing the life and soul of the town with an authenticity that only photography can preserve.

The exhibition at the Sant Pol Painting Museum transports visitors and their gaze to rediscover the municipality through the eyes of Sauleda, appreciating the wealth of human and cultural heritage that the photographer has been able to capture over decades. It is a journey that combines historical memory with artistic beauty, a dialogue between collective memory and the personal sensitivity of the photographer that continues to excite and surprise the contemporary public.
