Between light and matter: Janssens and François in dialogue at Galería Mascota

From February 2 to April 10, 2026, Galería Mascota in Valladolid, Mexico, presents an exhibition that invites visitors to immerse themselves in a unique sensory universe, where perception, materiality, and bodily experience intertwine in a profound and subtle way. The show brings together the work of Ann Veronica Janssens and Michel François, two artists who, although they develop distinct practices, share an artistic language marked by dialogue, collaboration, and mutual influence.

Janssens' work is characterized by its exploration of light, color, and atmosphere, creating installations that transform the perception of space and time. In this exhibition, his pieces generate optical effects that dissolve the boundaries between the physical and the sensory, inviting the viewer to question the stability of their own perception. Smoke, neon, mirrors, and projections interact with the space, creating a scenario that fluctuates between the tangible and the ephemeral, where the presence of the human body becomes central: every step, every movement modifies the experience.

For his part, Michel François brings a sculptural and conceptual dimension that engages with the fragility and decay of matter. His interventions, ranging from found objects to structures that seem to defy gravity, construct silent narratives about time, memory, and transformation. In this exhibition, François presents works that activate space with minimal yet highly meaningful gestures, establishing tensions between the everyday and the extraordinary, the solid and the unstable.

The exhibition, conceived as a choreography of light, movement, and materials, functions as a space of sensory intensification. The interaction between Janssens' and François' pieces generates a constant flow of contrasts and resonances: while one work may blur the contours of perception, the other offers physical and conceptual anchor points, constructing a dynamic equilibrium that challenges the viewer to remain attentive and present.

The exhibition offers an experiential journey through Galería Mascota. Visitors are invited to explore spaces where light and shadow, density and transparency, time and memory become active components of the artwork. Each piece, individually and in dialogue with the others, reconfigures how we relate to our surroundings, transforming the artistic experience into a physical and mental encounter with the intangible.
