Recognizing the city's creativity: visual, audiovisual arts, literature and community culture shine in the 2025 City of Barcelona Awards.

The 2025 City of Barcelona Awards, which will be presented at the beginning of 2026, have already revealed the names of the winners, especially highlighting the recognitions for Barcelona culture.

In the field of visual arts, the award went to Mar Arza, an artist from Castellón who last season exhibited at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in an exhibition curated by Valentí Roma ( Sotaveu ). Arza's work places language and words at the centre of her practice, and her exhibition at La Virreina featured creations made between 1997 and 2024, as well as new pieces conceived especially for the exhibition.

In the audiovisual category, the award went to Jaume Claret Muxart for his film Estrany riu (2025), starring Jan Monter, Nausicaa Bonnín and Jordi Oriol, among others.

The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 11th at the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Council, where the creative contribution of these artists to the cultural life of the city will be officially recognized.

Other winners

In the Essay, Humanities and History category of Barcelona, the award went to Neus Moran Gimeno, author of L'espoli general. The Francoist requisition of the heritage of the associative and workers' movement in Catalan-speaking territories (1939-1978) , published by Editorial L'Avenç.

In Design and Fashion, the award went to Marc Morro with the Wally project, while in Performing Arts, the company La Mula was recognized for the work Manual for Living Beings , presented at the Grec Festival in Barcelona.

In Architecture and Urbanism, the award went to the UTE formed by Agence Tter, Ana Coello and Meta Engineering, for the urbanization of Plaça de les Glòries. The Music category recognized El Petit de Cal Eril, who this year released the album ERIL ERIL ERIL .

Literature has also been a protagonist: in Catalan, Joan Todó received the award for the book La dolçor de viure , published by La Breu Edicions, while in Spanish, the winner is Samantha Schweblin for the book El buen mal , published by Seix Barral. As for Translation in Catalan, Arnau Pons has been recognized for his translation of La Rosa de Ningú , by Paul Celan, also published by La Breu Edicions.

In the categories that highlight community culture, the awards went to the Balls a la Plaça del Rei Association, which this year celebrated the 40th anniversary of its dances, and to the Josep Maria de Sagarra School, which has developed an innovative educational project throughout 2025 in collaboration with cultural and community agents. Finally, in Digital Culture, the winner is Joana Moll, with the project The User and the Beast , presented on October 1 at the CCCB within the framework of the Àgora.
