LABoral Centro de Arte and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum sign an agreement to promote the presence of Asturian artists in Madrid
LABoral Centro de Arte has signed a collaboration agreement with the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, which will open the door for several Asturian artists to exhibit their work in Madrid. The Minister of Culture, Language Policy, and Tourism, Vanessa Gutiérrez, signed the agreement alongside representatives of the Madrid institution, a gesture that reinforces the commitment to giving greater national exposure to the female talent of the Principality.
The agreement includes an artistic exchange program that will run for the next few years. Starting in 2026, LABoral will host performances by female artists from Spain and abroad who are affiliated with the Madrid museum. This will foster connections between different contemporary practices and solidify the Gijón center's position as a key space for artistic innovation.
Both institutions also commit to promoting new avenues for dissemination and strengthening their cultural ties, with the aim of promoting and showcasing contemporary art created by women. As part of the agreement, the Thyssen-Bornemisza will annually select three artists—Spanish or international—to present their performance works at LABoral, an agreement that will remain in effect until 2028 and could be extended in the future.
The collaboration will begin to materialize in 2026. That year, Asturian artists María Vallina (Llangréu/Langreo, 1978) and Mónica Cofiño (Gijón/Xixón, 1980) will participate in the fifth edition of Visión y presencia (Vision and Presence), which will take place in various spaces of the Madrid museum. Vallina will premiere her work Silencio roto para un encuentro en los límites habitables (Broken Silence for an Encounter at Habitable Limits) on January 21, while Cofiño will present Radiofonías de una guerra (Radiophonies of a War) on November 18.
