Agnès Rodon: art as an immersive experience and dialogue with nature

Starting on Friday, August 29 at 7 p.m., the Galatea room at the Alàbriga Hotel & Home Suites in Sant Feliu de Guíxols will host the new temporary exhibition of painting and sculpture by the contemporary plastic artist Agnès Rodon (Badalona, 1961) entitled Essència Mediterrània .

Rodón's work is developed around the research into the world of sensations and has nature as its protagonist and invites the viewer to enter into an intimate and very poetic journey. His works evoke the sea breeze, the reflection of the sun on the water and the deep connection with nature and memory.

Rodon, who was born in Barcelona, expresses her art through various disciplines such as painting, sculpture and engraving. Regarding her professional career, the Catalan artist graduated from the Pau Gargallo School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts in Badalona and has since taken several artistic specialization courses.

On the other hand, she has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and fairs, such as in Chattillón (Paris), Rome, Berlin, Miami, Tokyo and Vancouver. She has also been awarded important national and international prizes such as the First Prize II Cola Cao International Painting Competition, the First Prize II Painting, ACEA International Plastic Arts Exhibition in Barcelona, the First Prize International Painting Beaux Arts Europan Club in France or the Second Prize of the MIR National Painting Competition.

Some of his main works are exhibited in museums or institutions such as the Matthias Kühn Foundation (Mallorca), the Nutrexpa Collection (Barcelona) or the Ernesto Ventós Visual Smell Collection. This exhibition will be open to the public with free access in the Galatea room of the hotel until October 29, 2025.

Bonart met with the artist to get to know this new exhibition at the Alàbriga Hotel in Sant Feliu de Guíxols firsthand. For Agnès Rodon, art is communication and expression of the soul. “It helps me understand things about myself and I always think of it as an open proposal to the viewer,” explains the artist.

Nature and everyday life are his main sources of inspiration, and his work is characterized by the strength of gesture, the expressiveness of matter and the will to create immersive experiences. Regarding materials, Rodon conceives them as a vehicle to express ideas: iron symbolizes the earthiness and weight of existence, while the ancient technique of “encaustic” allows him to combine beeswax, resins and natural pigments to unite past and present.

In her latest exhibition, Rodon has incorporated a fragrance that accompanies the tour, transforming the visit into a multisensory experience where art, nature and emotion merge. At the Manifesta European Biennial, the piece We Only Have One Planet invited visitors to reflect on protecting the planet and connecting with nature through the senses. Looking to the future, Rodon wants to take her project beyond Catalonia and Spain, establishing international cultural and social links. For her, art is a tool to imagine more sustainable and respectful ways of inhabiting the world.
