Canals Galeria celebrates its 52nd anniversary, reaffirming itself as a reference space for contemporary art in Catalonia. It does so with a unique exhibition dedicated to Josep M. Subirachs, under the title Subirachs, his journey through Sant Cugat . Considered one of the most outstanding sculptors not only in Catalan art but also on the international scene, Subirachs left a profound mark on the history of art in our country.
From September 2 to November 30, the Sant Cugat del Vallès gallery hosts a representative selection of sculptures, paintings and drawings that offer the opportunity to rediscover his multifaceted and intense career. The exhibition aims to highlight the creative richness of an artist who knew how to move naturally between different disciplines and who, with his unmistakable language, marked an essential chapter in the artistic modernity of our time.

Subirachs, a multifaceted creator, is recognized above all for his sculptural work, although he also successfully cultivated disciplines such as painting, drawing, engraving, poster design, illustration, jewelry design and medal design. In Sant Cugat he left his mark with five textile creations, a testament to his versatility. The current exhibition offers a representative selection of sculptures, paintings and drawings that invite you to rediscover the richness and intensity of his artistic career.
This exhibition creates a kind of homage to a key figure in the art of our time, who is an inseparable part of the artistic history of Sant Cugat. At the same time, it creates a thread of memory of the creators who have contributed to making the city of València a cultural hub full of vibration and life. But the exhibition does not only look back: it is also a declaration of the future, another step in the trajectory that since 1973 has guided the artistic space with the defense of contemporary art, the celebration of creative freedom and the promotion of new talents.

During the 1960s, Subirachs became actively involved in the movement of artists at the Catalan Tapestry School in Sant Cugat. Canals recalls a key moment in particular: 1960, when the artist created his first textile work at the school, in collaboration with master craftsmen Joan Aymerich, Josep Royo and Antoni Busquets. That experience marked the beginning of a deep relationship with the city and its artistic fabric, a complicity that would continue over the years. It is no coincidence, then, that Subirachs exhibited on several occasions at the gallery, in both individual and collective exhibitions, consolidating a fruitful dialogue with Sant Cugat and its cultural environment.
