After years of waiting and multiple delays, Egypt is preparing to reveal to the world one of its most iconic treasures. The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located at the foot of the majestic pyramids of Giza, will officially open its doors on November 1, 2025, in an announcement endorsed by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli and President Abdel-Fattah Al Sisi.

The new museum in the Egyptian capital will occupy an area of approximately 490,000 square meters, the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization, housing more than 100,000 artifacts from Ancient Egypt. The highlight of the exhibition will be the complete collection from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, presented in its entirety for the first time since its discovery in 1922. Its treasures include the iconic golden mask, as well as chariots, jewels, and sarcophagi that transport visitors to the splendor of ancient Egypt.

The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum marks a milestone for the country, not only because of its symbolic location next to the pyramids or its impressive size, but also as part of a comprehensive strategy to revitalize tourism, a key sector for the national economy. With its opening, Egypt seeks to strengthen its international presence, showcase the richness of its ancient civilization, and regain its position as a global cultural icon after years of political instability and economic challenges.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will not be limited to a traditional museum; it is conceived as a truly comprehensive cultural complex. In addition to housing the most comprehensive collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts, it will feature restoration and conservation laboratories, auditoriums, movie theaters, educational areas, and recreational areas, creating a space where research, education, and entertainment coexist. This ambitious project combines the richness of ancient Egyptian tradition with the most advanced 21st-century museum technology, offering visitors an immersive experience that goes beyond the simple contemplation of historical artifacts.

With a modern, angular design reminiscent of the nearby pyramids, the museum welcomes visitors with the imposing 83-ton statue of Ramses II in its grand atrium. A chronological staircase invites visitors to journey through 7,000 years of history, showcasing the evolution of Egyptian art and craftsmanship. With its vast collection and state-of-the-art facilities, the Egypt Museum (GEM) is emerging as a global cultural destination, where the wonders of the past merge with a modern, immersive experience.
