Major change at the helm of the El Greco Museum in Toledo with the arrival of Carolina Tobella (Toledo, 1983), replacing Rosa Becerril. A state-owned museum dependent on the Ministry of Culture, it is one of the most emblematic cultural institutions in the city of Castilla-La Mancha.

Her appointment, recently formalized by the Ministry of Culture, was announced through a resolution published in the Official State Gazette in July 2025. With a solid track record in heritage conservation and museum management, Tobella Arredondo now assumes the direction of this national museum, dedicated to preserving and disseminating the work of the celebrated Cretan painter based in Toledo. Her appointment marks a new stage for the institution, which seeks to strengthen its role as a cultural benchmark both nationally and internationally.

Carolina Tobella has collaborated with institutions such as the Archivo Histórico de la Nobleza, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Foundation, and the Duque de Lerma Foundation. In 2023, she joined the Faculty of Curators of State Museums and in 2024 curated the exhibition Tristan. Between the Divine and the Human, in addition to participating in the organization of exhibitions such as El Greco is Different and El Greco. A Painter in the Labyrinth.

The El Greco Museum, the only museum of its kind currently dedicated exclusively to the celebrated painter, has as its fundamental mission to bring the public closer to the life and work of Doménikos Theotokópoulos, as well as his profound influence on the city of Toledo at the beginning of the 17th century. Through its exhibitions, the museum not only highlights El Greco's artistic output and its historical context, but also pays tribute to Benigno de la Vega-Inclán, a key figure in the revaluation and international projection of the Cretan painter's legacy.
