Eternal dialogue between Kitamura's work and material

Hiroshi Kitamura exhibits Secrets of the Forest at the Numa Foundation and does so based on a subtle dialogue between matter and emptiness, between the limits of nature and human creation. Born in Hokkaido, the sculptor and artist has resided in Catalonia since 1987, specifically in the Empordà in 2011. Listening, respecting and not imposing forms will be elements that can be seen at the Numa cultural space in Ciutadella in Menorca.

Recycled woods of different types, observation of the material for subsequent cleaning where it reveals the memory of the wood. After these two indispensable steps, Kitamura creates and does so by combining forms, always with the Japanese artist as a guide to the material. The set of his works reflects on matter as a perpetual cycle of life and death, in which everything decomposes, is renewed and takes on new forms.

From May 8 to October 31, he presents an exhibition with 25 monumental and spectacular sculptures, full of symbolism, as some reach three meters. Along with these three-dimensional pieces, Hiroshi Kitamura combines with seven large strips on paper, assembled according to the Japanese hyogu method.

Kitamura describes himself as a helper, an artist who listens to the material and allows the form to emerge. His works are a link between life and death, the transitory and the eternal, where the viewer's gaze reflects on their own connection to the environment.
