It's one of the most powerful exhibitions on the Miami art scene in the state of Florida, titled Rachel Feinstein: The Miami Years , which will be on view until August 17 at The Bass, covering nearly three decades of the New York artist's work.
Rachel Feinstein - Clay body parts strung together
Feinstein delves into art through a multidisciplinary approach, moving from sculpture to painting, video, performance, and installations, a universe she recreates in The Miami Years . She reflects on diverse themes, but elements such as intimacy and vulnerability are present throughout this journey spanning nearly three decades. These characteristics shape human behavior and female identity.
In The Bass, Feinstein uses stagecraft and demonstrates this recurring use throughout her career with a constant use of the theatrical plane, reinforcing the notion and structures of artifice and illusion.

Influenced early on by Carolee Schneemann and Kiki Smith, there is another essential element in Feinstein's work: Miami. The artist grew up in the Florida city and from there, she creates with collisions of extremes, its landscapes, commercial development, and urban change, always in parallel with the changes undergoing the city in the southern United States.
For this exhibition at The Bass, he creates a specific work, Panorama of Miami, a spectacular installation of painted mirror panels stretching up to nine meters, exploring how Americans and their society absorb and appropriate European culture. In the exhibition, he explores the underlying impact of the collective imagination and the extreme realities of South Florida.
Improvised, exaggerated, incongruous, even monstrous, Feinstein pieces together to create captivating works, curated by James Voorhies and Claudia Mattos.
