She is one of the most important figures in documentary photography in Spain, and her portrayals of cultural, political, and social life. Colita will now fill the Niemeyer with an exhibition reviewing four decades of that relationship, curated by Francesc Polop, on view until January 11.

Some 140 works make up the retrospective of Catalan photographer Colita, entitled "Colita, Art and Part." She was one of the representatives of Barcelona's Gauche Divine movement, and many of the moments were captured with her camera, which blends photojournalism, art, and photography. She took photographs whenever possible and was always at the forefront.

Unique moments, events, performances, exhibitions, films, concerts—Colita was always there, in an exhibition that begins at the Niemeyer Center with One Hundred Years of Solitude and the portrait of Gabriel García Márquez, an iconic photograph. “She was a woman who positioned herself in culture, she was progressive, left-wing, just as she said, because she never hid and understood that Mr. Wert's cultural policy was tremendous, and she told him that the last thing she wanted was to be photographed with him,” explains Palop, a curator who maintained a close relationship with Isabel Steva Hernández.

Six artistic expressions had a significant impact on Colita's life and work: Carmen Amaya opened her soul to flamenco and its world; the aforementioned Gabriel García Márquez deepened her love of literature and its intricacies; Gonzalo Suárez was part of her first steps as a still photographer in cinema; Mediterráneo, by Joan Manuel Serrat, connected her with the poetry and music of the moment; Joan Miró, through a historic countercultural action, brought her closer to the power of total art; and Ocaña, with his activism and transgression, led her to new and promising queer aesthetics that anticipated the LGBTQIA+ future.

An opportunity to see different works, some well-known ones, and also some curious ones, in a Colita who systematically photographed everything that was happening around her.
