The Fundació Joan Miró commemorates 50 years with a program that highlights its evolution over time, without giving up its original essence. The space continues to be a meeting point for contemporary art, where different disciplines intersect and connect with the city and people. This anniversary comes loaded with activities that not only refer to Miró, but also highlight the spirit of collaboration and the open attitude that has always characterized the Foundation.
The kick-off will be on June 11th with an exhibition that reviews the institution's trajectory, Poetry has just begun. 50 years of Miró. The exhibition collects key moments from the past and makes it clear that the Foundation is not just a memory, but an active present. And on June 15th, the celebration will open wide to everyone with an open day and proposals for all audiences, concerts, family workshops with well-known names such as Pilarín Bayés and Marta Altés, storytelling, participatory activities and castellers.

In the fall, Miró and the United States arrives, an exhibition that puts the Catalan artist in dialogue with figures such as Jackson Pollock , Mark Rothko , Louise Bourgeois and Helen Frankenthaler . An opportunity to explore how their works influenced each other and better understand Miró's international impact. This exhibition, co-organized with The Phillips Collection in Washington, will travel to the US capital in 2026.
Another notable novelty will be the new presentation of the Collection , scheduled for spring 2026. This reorganization will focus on Miró's creative processes and will combine final works with working materials. The space will also be remodeled with the dialogue between art and architecture in mind, a fundamental idea in the collaboration between Miró and the architect Sert. This new perspective will also serve as the starting point for a new cycle of long-term exhibitions, designed to establish links with other institutions in the cultural, scientific and educational fields, with the aim of promoting new points of view and experiences around art. To all this, we must add the recovery of the Cypress Garden, a space that until now was not open to the public and which will become part of the visit itinerary. This opening also responds to a more ecological and respectful view of the environment.

Finally, on April 29, 2026, the exhibition of Kapwani Kiwanga , an artist recognized for her research on collective memory, historical narratives and power structures, and winner of the last edition of the Joan Miró Prize, will be inaugurated. This exhibition reaffirms the Foundation's commitment to artistic practices that promote critical reflection and establish connections with the global context.
With all this, the 50th anniversary not only serves to take stock, but to demonstrate that the Fundació Joan Miró continues to be a space that is committed to art as a tool for thought, encounter and connection with the world. A place where culture breathes in all its forms, from the visual arts to music and architecture. This year's celebration also aims to be an impetus to continue promoting artistic creation and remain an active and plural reference within the contemporary scene.
