The works of the artist Farah Atassi directly dialogue with the works of the great master of cubism Pablo Picasso and other creators with the exhibition Farah Atassi. Genius loci which can be visited at the Picasso Museum in Malaga from May 23 to December 14. An exhibition with twenty works created and made between 2015 - 2025 by Atassi, influenced by geometric shapes and the play with space.

Farah Atassi is becoming one of the most promising artists of contemporary art in Europe today and this exhibition in the city of Malaga is one of the shows that should be marked in red, a must-see until the end of the year. Dialogue with great masters of modern art, including, of course, Pablo Picasso, but Atassi goes beyond the cubist tradition and explores the expressive possibilities of space with contemporary painting.

It is the first solo exhibition of the Belgian artist in Spain, curated by art critic Marjolaine Lévy, highlighting the uniqueness of Atassi's work, the complexity of his use of chromatism, as well as the relationship with the grid. The visitor to Farah Atassi. Genius Loci will find creations also influenced by great cubist masters such as Fernand Léger or Georges Braque, you can even take a trip to the past when Picasso gave shape to cubism on Rue Ravignon in Paris.

But with a difference, Atassi experiments with the treatment, the construction of space in the works, with figures that overlap with a cubist appearance within a closed space that almost seems impossible. All combined with a personal look of the artist, the scales in the composition and confusing volumes.

The exhibition is divided into four sections in terms of theme and temporality, starting the path of the spirit of the place with the Workshop, later highlighting The Mechanical Cabaret, where a set of paintings show female bodies in motion within a synchronized choreography of legs, rings and balls. The last two exhibition parts are The Bank, to end the exhibition with Through the Window, paintings where female characters are surrounded by flowers and fruit next to windows that reveal cloudy skies and starry nights.

Attasi takes over the exhibition duties of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Hilma of Klimt, Louise Bourgeois, Paula Rego and more recently María Blanchard in 2024. The Malaga art gallery's exhibition line continues to give visibility to the work of women artists. The Picasso Museum wanted to open the art gallery to the 21st century and collect the work of 20th century artists. Atassi interprets, recovers, transforms and appropriates art.
