Martí Rom: reinterpreting the landscape
bonart reus - 13/05/25

Martí Rom arrives in Reus with a new exhibition at the Antoni Pinyol Gallery . The artist presents Reinterpretar el paisatge, an exhibition that adds to a long career full of proposals that mix sculpture, painting, performance and installation, often with an ironic look and loaded with personal or cultural references. This new project comes in parallel with the publication of the book Demiürg de volums i colors, an extensive work that collects fifty years of work and that, more than taking stock, opens doors to a global reading of his creative universe.

The book, published by Pagès Editors as part of the Grama collection, has over 300 pages and includes over 400 images. It does not follow a chronological thread but invites you to explore Rom's work. There are sculptures, paintings, conceptual actions and also references to his work as a promoter of artistic projects, exhibition spaces and collectives. The volume includes texts by prominent figures such as Daniel Giralt-Miracle , Conxita Oliver , Arnau Puig, Joan Perucho and M.Carme Roca , which help to contextualize a work that often plays with the recycling of materials, homage to references and social criticism.

The book's introduction was written by Ramon Casalé Soler , an art historian who defines Martí Rom as someone who knows how to combine gesture with idea, and who has been able to move through different visual languages with great formal freedom. For Casalé, this book goes far beyond the usual format of a catalogue or monograph; he considers it a kind of intimate and conceptual map, an emotional guide that covers decades of artistic research, both in terms of materials and forms of expression.

Born in Barcelona in 1955, but closely linked to Mont-roig del Camp, Rom has exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. He has created more than a thousand sculptures, thousands of drawings and nearly fifty performances, and has been behind projects such as Trànsit Art and Espai Blanc . He has also participated in tributes to artists such as Miró , Català-Roca or Guinovart , and recently, the Enric Monjo Museum in Vilassar de Mar dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him.

With Demiurge of Volumes and Colors, the artist offers a broad look at his own trajectory, built with intuition, gesture and commitment. And with Reinterpretar el paisatge, which can be visited until June 14, he keeps alive his desire to experiment and rethink ways of looking at the world.
