Barcelona is preparing to host, for another year, the Loop Festival, which from 12 to 22 November 2025 will offer a new edition marked by a shift in artistic direction. This festival, born in 2004, has become a meeting place for artists, institutions, collectors and thinkers in the field of video art and expanded cinema. With more than two decades of experience, Loop continues to evolve, faithful to its principles but open to new ways of doing and looking.

One of the notable new features this year is the appointment of curator and writer Filipa Ramos as the new artistic director of both the Loop Festival and the Loop Symposium, which will be held on November 19 and 20. Ramos, a recognized figure on the international scene, has been linked to Loop since its inception and last year she led the symposium under the motto Images that Move Us Forward, a program that brought together personalities such as Hoor Al-Qasimi (Sharjah Art Foundation), Paolo Moretti (Fondazione Prada), Julian Ross (Eye Filmmuseum) and the artist Gabriel Abrantes, among others.

With a career that combines thought, curation and research, Filipa Ramos co-founded the Vdrome platform —a pioneering project dedicated to online artist cinema— and curated the film sector at Art Basel, showing works by artists such as Camille Henrot, Sky Hopinka, Joan Jonas and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. In 2024, she was responsible for the Bestiari project with Carlos Casas, with which Catalonia participated in the Venice Biennale. She also combines her activity as a curator with teaching at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel.

The conceptual proposal for this edition revolves around the title Miratges Mirages, a theme that will cross all sections of the festival to explore images as generators of fictions, relationships and altered perceptions. The project will seek to establish dialogues between cinema, the collective imagination and the forms of representation of the body and landscape, with a program that will combine films, installations and collaborations with artistic centers in the city.

This stage of renewal also incorporates Eva Paià as deputy curator. With a degree in Art History and a Master's in Advanced Studies from the University of Barcelona, Paià is currently the artistic director of the Sala d'Art Jove. She has worked with institutions such as MACBA, Fabra i Coats or La Escocesa, and has been part of projects such as Idensitat and festivals such as Art Nou or Loop itself. Her work revolves around educational practices, critical institutionality and alternative exhibition formats, as well as writing in specialized media such as Adesk*, El Temps de les Arts or La Maleta de Portbou.

With this new team, Loop Festival 2025 is preparing to once again become a point of reference for contemporary audiovisual practices, weaving partnerships and expanding ways of seeing, thinking and experiencing art video.
