Stories cut by Roman Klonek
Unique opportunity to view Klonek's work from the lost cut at 3 Punts Galeria.
Roman Klonek's story is full of moments and places in parallel to his impressive work that overflows with soul and expression. The artist was born in Katowice, Poland, to study years later in Düsseldorf and exhibit in multiple corners of the world. Now, coinciding with Sant Jordi's Day, Klonex is exhibiting his work with Carving Stories at the Galeria 3 Punts in Barcelona and it is time to stop in this art with the soul of woodcut.
Woodcuts will be the key element of this tour at the Consell de Cent gallery and the artist does so as a means of artistic expression, leaving aside current digital creations to transport the viewer to tradition and to an impression as a transfer of knowledge. In recent months, Klonek has exhibited in Berlin, Rüsselsheim, Hamburg, Brussels to fill the 3 Punts gallery in Barcelona from April 24 to June 7.

It directly impacts the multi-colored woodcuts that characterize him so much, the narrative game that the artist composes, the figurative ideas that recall Russian and Polish caricatures of the sixties and seventies, classic 20th century poster art and compositions that are present in countries such as Japan, but above all Klonek creates a vibrant duality between otherness and physical comedy. The lost cut is the path chosen by the artist and is the way to create all his graphic iconography that stands out and surprises if you find yourself in dialogue between Klonek's gaze and work for the first time.

It is a work that tells stories and does so with the art of woodcut. With Carving Stories it is the great opportunity to delve into the artistic structures of Roman Klonex and Barcelona, through 3 Punts, gives this unique option. The artist is a master of wood printing and does it with audacity to glimpse aesthetics, avant-garde, color and pop culture. A work by Klonex impacts for all its elements, also for the varied range of animals, human figures, hybrid creatures, letters and color, lots of color.
Klonex has created advertisements for television, illustrations for books and magazines or the 2019 tour poster for the US band The Pixies. At Galeria 3 Punts, the lost cut technique is a key point and it is a way of creating by cutting a plate for each color. Once the process is finished, the wooden plate can no longer be reused and Klonex has the particularity that in each work he uses between three and five colors maximum and after that oil painting comes into play to give the surprising and dazzling final touch.
