Under the title What color are roses on Saturn?, Montserrat Playà 's solo exhibition brings together a selection of works that show imaginary vegetation in an extraterrestrial context. This set of fictional plants, which in some aspects recall the morphology of known flora, constitute the core of the artistic proposal, which revolves around a universe that invites us to reflect on life on other planets, while raising the possibility of unknown life forms. The plants and flowers shown, despite being invented, establish a symbolic connection with the flora of our planet, especially with the rose, a flower that is traditionally associated with love and beauty, and which, despite its delicate appearance, can contain defense mechanisms such as thorns.
Montserrat Playà (Barcelona, 1967) works with various techniques and media, such as painting, drawing and engraving. Although her work is mainly based on geometric shapes, organic elements and abstraction, these visual resources serve her to address both contemporary issues and aspects of a more intimate and personal nature.
