Two stones. Persistent landscapes

The ingenuity and sustainability of dry stone at the Terra Museum.

Two stones. Persistent landscapes

The Carulla Foundation 's Terra Museum inaugurated last week 'Two Stones. Persistent Landscapes', an exhibition co-organized by the Landscape Observatory and the Palau Robert , which seeks to vindicate the modernity and current relevance of the dry stone construction technique.

Dry stone is an ancestral technique that has shaped the Catalan rural landscape for centuries and is based on fitting stones together without using any mortar. This practice has given rise to a variety of constructions such as walls and huts, all of which are naturally integrated into the environment. Beyond its aesthetic and heritage value, dry stone offers sustainable solutions in the field of construction, an aspect that becomes especially relevant in a context of climate change and ecological emergency.

Two stones. Persistent landscapes

'Two Stones Persistent Landscapes', open to the public until December 31, shows the richness and diversity of the landscapes formed by this technique and highlights how dry stone can contribute to the sustainability of rural environments in the face of contemporary environmental challenges. The exhibition includes a selection of photographs, maps and audiovisual materials that illustrate how dry stone has marked different landscapes in Catalonia, from the Terres de l'Ebre to the Pyrenees. These are images that capture the beauty of these structures and highlight their functionality and durability. The exhibition also emphasizes highlighting current initiatives that promote the recovery and maintenance of dry stone, underlining its relevance in the fight against climate change, among which, the collaboration between local communities, architects and landscape experts who work to preserve and revitalize these constructions, so that the dry stone technique can be a viable and inspiring solution for the future.

An opportunity to learn about one of the oldest and most sustainable techniques in the world, and to reflect on the role it can play in building a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
