Photographic Social Vision organizes for the nineteenth time the most recognized exhibition in the field of photojournalism on a global scale

The Photographic Social Vision Foundation inaugurates the World Press Photo 2023 exhibition at the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB) . The exhibition, which can be visited from November 10 to December 17 , presents the winning projects in 2023 of the World Press Photo, the most prestigious photojournalism competition in the world . The exhibition shows works, mostly unpublished in our country, chosen for their visual quality and which offer various points of view on current affairs and which address the environmental crisis , gender issues or the resilience of the human being , in next to common and still topical issues such as international war conflicts , migration or social inequality . The exhibition includes a total of 119 photographs .

After the good reception in past editions and aware of the educational potential of the World Press Photo 2023 exhibition in Barcelona, the educational area of the Photographic Foundation is expanding the program of face-to-face guided visits for the general public - this year also at the weekend -, for companies - behind closed doors - and for educational centers - which have already reserved most of the available places -.

The Photographic Foundation, in collaboration with several entities, organizes parallel reflection activities with authors who have been awarded a World Press Photo 2023: César Dezfuli , the only Spanish author who has won a global prize in this edition, will talk with journalist Agus Morales, director of 5W magazine, about how to explain migrations through photojournalism (November 18); the South African photographer Lee-Ann Olwage , winner of the World Press Photo 2023 in the category of Individual Photography (Africa) with the project El Gran Oblit, about dementia on the African continent, will talk about photojournalism and mental health (November 20 ); and in collaboration with Médicos Sin Fronteras and the CCCB, a round table will be held on photojournalism in armed conflicts and the use of information as a weapon of war (December 11).

Photo of the Year , by Ukrainian photographer Evgeniy Maloletka, shows the horror of war for civilians with a moving image of the siege of Mariupol; the Graphic Report of the Year , by the Danish photographer Mads Nissen, tells the daily life of the Afghan people under the Taliban government and without international assistance; the Long-Term Project , by the Armenian photographer Anush Babajanyan, narrates how four Central Asian countries manage their scarce access to water and adapt to new realities since the fall of the Soviet Union, and the Open Format , by the Egyptian Mohamed Mahdy, preserves the memory of a fishing neighborhood in Alexandria (Egypt) that is about to disappear, developing a collaborative project with its residents.

The contest distinguishes the work of two Spanish photographers: César Dezfuli (Madrid, 1991) with a World Press Photo 2023, in the Open Format category of the European region , for Passengers , a project started in 2016 that tells personal stories of migrants who cross the central Mediterranean, and Emilio Morenatti (Saragossa, 1969), with an honorable mention for War Wounds , a very personal report about civilians who have suffered amputations in the war in Ukraine.
