The solidarity art auction of Calonge and Sant Antoni raised a total of 8,000 euros. It should be said that a total of 117 works of art given free of charge by the various artists were put up for auction. The sale of these works raised a figure of €6,200, which rose to €8,000 over the weekend with the discounted auction of the works that were left empty.

Sources from the City Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni have informed that all the money collected will be used to fight against Friedreich's Ataxia, a rare disease suffered by a resident of the municipality. Among the 117 works that were put up for auction were pieces by Vicente Romero, Rosa Serra, Torner de Semir, José Luis Pascual or Quim Domene, among others.

The Solidarity Art Auction, which celebrated its fifth edition this year, managed to raise a total of €37,825.

This activity is organized by the City Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni, the cultural manager Juan José Gallardo and the organization Stop FA, and has the collaboration of Bonart Cultural, SL, Encarna Angulo Art, Edelmira Sala d'Art, Francesc Barnés, Jordi Comas Foundation, Rosa Maria Bober, Obaart and Revistart.

Friedreich's Ataxia, a rare and minority disease

Friedreich's Ataxia is a rare disease that causes the degeneration of the neurons of the spinal cord and cerebellum, causing mainly difficulties in movement, in the ability to walk and that over time leaves patients in a wheelchair wheels. This condition affects a resident of the municipality, Mireia Gómez. Every two euros collected from each registration will be used to fund the Stop-FA Foundation, which is researching how to cure it.

This disease affects about 500 people in Catalonia and begins to manifest itself between the ages of 5 and 15, has an incidence of 2 cases per 100,000 people in populations of European origin, and, on the other hand, does not affect citizens of origin African or Asian. Due to its low incidence, it is considered a rare or minority pathology. About 500 people suffer from it in Catalonia and about 3,000 in Spain.
