La Panera presents "Mireia Sallarès. Having a story, having a responsibility"

The La Panera Art Center presents the exhibition Mireia Sallarès from March 5 to May 22. To have a history, to have a responsibility in the care of Joana Masó.

Mireia Sallarès. Having a history, having a responsibility puts two projects of Mireia Sallarès in dialogue, through the notion of potential history and the forms of responsibility that are involved. As photography researcher and writer Ariella Aïsha Azoulay suggests, potential history is an exercise in unlearning history as it has been passed down to us, erasing those experiences that have resisted it: those that happened, but not so much. we could only forget because they did not let us know that they existed.

People who engage with potential history are often not specialists in the past they are talking about. They are the ones who want to involve their experience with what they narrate and with our present. This desire for another story that has not yet been told to us and in which we want to involve our voice is what links the filmed interview that Mireia Sallarès did with the American filmmaker Jill Godmilow, in 2013, with the film Film about the Catalan psychiatrist exiled in France Francesc Tosquelles, made in 2021. In both projects, Mireia Sallarès is linked to problems initiated and sustained by others. In the case of Jill Godmilow, the desire to get involved in the distribution of political films, even within the limits of illegality, questioning any artistic practice that is not responsible for the conditions of work circulation same. In the case of Francesc Tosquelles, Mireia Sallarès is linked to the collective forgetfulness of this psychiatrist who, in Catalonia, today speaks to us of forgetting a much greater legacy: that of the revolutionary experiences of the Republic. , which linked politics to psychiatry, psychoanalysis and mental health; also with the pathologies of the normal man.
