Venice hosts 'If All Time Is Eternally Present' at the Biennale

The Venice Biennale, one of the most important events in the world of contemporary art, will host the project 'If All Time Is Eternally Present' as a collateral event. This project, curated by Marta Barina and Chiara Carrera, will unfold on the façade of the Palazzo Nervi Scattolin, an iconic example of 20th-century architecture in Venice.

The project, which will open on June 5, 2026, seeks to establish a dialogue between contemporary artworks and the architectural legacy of Pier Luigi Nervi. Through public projections, a sound installation, and a bench designed specifically for the space, the aim is to transform the palace façade into a space dedicated to video art.

In a recent interview, Carrera and Barina explained that the project's title comes from a line in T.S. Eliot's poem 'Four Quartets,' reflecting the complexity of Venice as a palimpsest city, where different eras and imaginaries coexist. The curators hope that each work and each architectural element will be seen as an expression of its own present, and that these different "presents" will be able to engage in dialogue with one another.

The obstacles to carrying out the project have been numerous, including the lack of a designated exhibition space and a lengthy permitting process. However, the collaboration with the Pier Luigi Nervi Foundation has been key to overcoming these challenges and bringing the initiative to fruition.

'If All Time Is Eternally Present' aspires not only to be an ephemeral installation, but also a lasting experience, expanding the idea of Venice as a laboratory of cultural innovation. Featuring artists such as Kandis Williams, Meriem Bennani & Orian Barki, and Tai Shani, the project aims to offer a critical reading of the present through multidisciplinary practices.

As the opening date approaches, interest in this project continues to grow, and it promises to become one of the highlights of the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition.
