As part of the 61st Venice Biennale, Chile presents Inter-Reality , an ambitious immersive and multisensory installation by artist Norton Maza. The project, commissioned by Florencia Loewenthal and curated by Marisa Caichiolo and Dermis León, proposes an experience that pushes the boundaries between the real and the simulated, inviting viewers to question contemporary ways of perceiving reality.

The work is structured as a shared spatial environment rather than a traditional sculptural object. Within this space, Maza unfolds a complex network of visual and auditory elements that engage with his artistic trajectory, deeply influenced by Western classical and baroque traditions. Through devices such as illusion, simulation, and multiple perspectives, Inter-Reality constructs an unstable perceptual field that challenges singular viewpoints and fixed certainties.

Far from being immediate, the installation proposes a leisurely pace of observation and an expanded experience of time. Visitors are invited to explore different perspectives, in a journey that raises questions about memory, power, truth, and freedom. This experiential dimension is enhanced by the use of advanced technologies, original music, and hyperrealistic elements that intensify the sense of immersion.

Developed in Santiago, Chile, the project addresses global issues from a South American perspective. Topics such as migration, the ecological crisis, geopolitical conflicts, disinformation, and political tensions permeate the proposal, creating a space for critical reflection and collective dialogue.

In the artist's own words, "the more globalized we become, the higher the walls get, and to cross them we have to become objects, disguise ourselves as household appliances to reach our destination; it's as if we had to renounce the condition of being alive in order to have value." This powerful metaphor encapsulates the spirit of Inter-Reality : a work that challenges the contradictions of the present and questions the logic that structures our contemporary coexistence.
