The sculptor and poet Gabriel presents Sic et Non , his new book of poems published by TUT Edicions, in an event that will take place on Wednesday, October 14, at 7 p.m., at the Espai Isern Dalmau in Barcelona. The presentation will include a reading and comments by the author himself, as well as interventions by the art critic Jesús Martínez Clarà, the philologist and editor Quico Ferran and Ricard Planas.
With a career linked to both sculpture and writing, Gabriel has exhibited at the Santa Monica Art Center, the Joan Miró Foundation, the Joan Prats Gallery, the Fernando Alcolea Gallery in Barcelona and New York, the Espais Foundation in Girona, the Vila Casas Foundation and the Alzueta Gallery, among other venues. His written production includes the essay Ultra la forma autárquica. L'art sense significat and the poetry collection La rossor de la tenebra , both published by Viena Edicions, as well as theoretical texts and poetry in various specialized magazines.
In Sic et Non , the relationship between word and sculpture once again occupies a central place. Gabriel's written work shares with his sculptural production the same formal and conceptual language, characterized by a particular crypticism. The collection of poems can thus be read like a sculpture: through materials, forms, incisions and folds that suggest a process of research between matter and meaning.
The title, a Latin expression that literally means "yes and no", introduces another of the keys to the book. Rather than posing an opposition between two poles, Sic et Non points towards a space where this duality is suspended. Art appears, in this sense, as a transformative experience capable of opening a threshold towards a more original reality.
The presentation will take place at the Espai Isern Dalmau, at Mallorca Street, 305, in Barcelona, on Wednesday, October 14, at 7 p.m.
