Barcelona Gallery Weekend transforms the city into a map of exhibitions
The 12th edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend brings together more than 50 artists in a program that combines exhibitions, temporary shows and a wide agenda of free activities.
Barcelona is once again launching its artistic season with a new edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend, which from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 September will transform the galleries of the city and of l'Hospitalet de Llobregat into spaces for meeting, discovering and circulating contemporary and modern art. Galeries, the 12th edition of the event features the participation of 25 galleries —23 in Barcelona and 2 in l'Hospitalet—, which present a programme made up of 38 exhibitions and the work of more than 50 national and international artists.

Once again, the Barcelona Gallery Weekend vindicates galleries not only as spaces for marketing and exhibition, but as active agents within the cultural ecosystem. They are places where stories are produced, ideas are put into circulation and encounters are generated between artists, collectors, institutions, professionals and the public. For four days, this fabric dispersed throughout different neighborhoods of Barcelona is presented as a shared map that allows us to approach different generations, languages and ways of understanding contemporary creation.
The program offers a remarkable diversity of proposals. Among the outstanding exhibitions are those of Eulàlia Valldosera at àngels barcelona, Lucía C. Pino at Prats Nogueras Blanchard and Francesc Torres at SELTZ by Ritter Ferrer. Also participating are Luis Bisbe and Jacobo Castellano at Galería Alegría, Eulàlia Rovira and Sergio Prego at ethall, Ana Jotta and Allen Ruppersberg at ProjecteSD, Joan Pallé and Gema Polanco at ADN, Kepa Garraza at Victor Lope, Laia Argüelles Folch at Chiquita Room and Mounira Al Solh at Bombon Projects, among many other proposals.

The program thus outlines a journey through very diverse practices, in which established artists coexist with creators from more recent generations and different approaches to the languages of contemporary art. The very territorial distribution of the galleries allows us to understand the Barcelona Gallery Weekend as an artistic cartography of the city, an invitation to leave the most predictable circuits and discover projects that, during the rest of the year, are part of Barcelona's cultural daily life.
The concentration of activity also allows us to highlight the urban dimension of the galleries. In Gràcia we find House of Chappaz; in Eixample, ADN Galeria, Galeria Marc Domènech, Mayoral, ProjecteSD, RocioSantaCruz, SELTZ by Ritter Ferrer, Victor Lope Arte Contemporáneo and Zielinsky. The Trafalgar area and adjacent streets bring together 3 Punts Galeria, Al-Tiba9 Gallery, Bombon Projects, Dilalica, Escat Gallery, FUGA, Pigment Gallery, Prats Nogueras Blanchard, Sorondo Projects and Suburbia Contemporary. PALMADOTZE participates with a pop-up at FoodCultura, in Poblenou, while àngels barcelona and Sala Parés are located in Ciutat Vella and Chiquita Room, in Sant Antoni. In Hospitalet de Llobregat, specifically in the Santa Eulàlia neighborhood, ethall and Galería Alegría participate.

This edition also maintains the FLASH program, which for the second consecutive year coexists with the general program. These are 12 ephemeral exhibitions that can only be visited between September 17 and 20, incorporating a temporal component that expands the possibilities of discovery and invites the public to take advantage of these four days to visit different spaces.
But the Barcelona Gallery Weekend goes beyond exhibitions. The event features a schedule of free activities for all audiences that includes meetings with artists, performances, talks, screenings, conversations, vermouths, guided tours and visits also designed for families with children. The activities extend over two weekends and expand the proposal beyond the strictly exhibition format, favoring a more direct relationship between artists, galleries and visitors.
