Avelino Sala: Gathering contemporary storms and conflicts

CentroCentro is hosting the exhibition "The Tempest" until September 20th. "The Garden of Forking Paths" is a journey through the work of artist Avelino Sala, presented as an exercise in critical and poetic resistance. The exhibition unfolds as a field of tensions between opposing poles: threat and fragility, inherited symbols and new imaginaries, gestures of power and the cracks through which other narratives seep. The works address contemporary issues without sacrificing a precise and meticulous aesthetic expression.

Avelino Sala (Gijón, 1972), artist and editor of the magazine Sublime , develops a critical practice that questions cultural and social reality from a poetic perspective. Through the exploration of contemporary imagery, his work highlights the tensions and fractures of the present, addressing issues such as power, control, migration, and the environmental crisis. His work has thus established itself as a benchmark for art understood as a space of resistance and the construction of new imaginaries.

The Tempest is presented not merely as an exhibition, but as a parallel visual narrative, a poetic and political map that invites us to imagine alternative forms of resistance. Through symbols stripped of imposed meanings and stories rescued from the clutches of oblivion, the exhibition constructs a space where the image is activated as a tool for thought.

It is at this intersection of critique and beauty that the power of Sala's work is revealed. Her pieces highlight the contradictions of a system that transforms urgent issues—such as the climate crisis, gender equality, and social rights—into empty rhetoric. Concepts like control, borders, and memory intertwine in works that function as a living archive of collective conflicts and desires.
