The exhibition, inaugurated on March 8, traces the recovery of Catalan self-government, the first democratic elections and cultural normalization during the beginning of the Transition.

The exhibition "The First Steps Towards Democracy (1976-1978)" begins, dedicated to the recovery from self-government Catalan and the incipient normalization cultural in the beginning from the Transition after Franco's death. Promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council, it opens on March 8th and can be visited until the end of the year in a shared network of 24 local museums.

The exhibition presents a selection of documents, photographs and objects from the collections of the museums local and of the archives municipal related with moments keys of the period, such as the mobilizations for the recovery of Catalan self-government, the first democratic elections, the first feminist movements, the normalization of Catalan culture and freedom of expression.

Organized by the Culture Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council with the collaboration of Memorial Democràtic and the participating museums, the exhibition is part of the Memory project. in Network, with the goal from reinforce the paper of the museums how to depositories from historical memory and transmitters of a legacy and a material and intangible cultural heritage shared by society.

Curatorship for John French, director of the Museum from Badalona, the exhibition is structured in five thematic areas. The tour is completed with video interviews of witnesses from each of the areas, from the Democratic Memorial archive.

The exhibition will be progressively displayed until December with the gradual incorporation of the participating local museums. During the month of March it will be possible to visit the Museum of L'Hospitalet-Casa Espanya, the Museums of Sitges, the Museum of the History of Immigration of Catalonia – Municipal Archive of Sant Adrià de Besòs “Isabel Rojas Castroverde”, the Torre Balldovina Museum in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, the Palau Mercader Museum in Cornellà de Llobregat, the Ter Museum in Manlleu and the Tomàs Balvey Museum-Archive in Cardedeu.

In April, the Municipal Nautical Museum of Masnou, the Museum of Arenys de Mar and the Municipal Museum of Vilassar de Dalt will be added. In May, it will be the turn of the Calella Tourism Museum – Calella Municipal Historical Archive, the Castellbisbal Countryside Museum and the Badalona Museum.

Finally, between September and the end of the year, the exhibition will reach new facilities: the Sant Boi de Llobregat Museum, the Mataró-Can Serra Museum, the Montcada i Reixac Municipal Museum, the Abelló Museum in Mollet del Vallès, the Esquerda Archaeological Museum, the Sant Cugat Museum, the Camp de les Lloses de Tona Site and Interpretation Center, the Viladecans Museum, the Vinseum. Museum of Wine Cultures of Catalonia, the Manresa Museum and the Prat de Llobregat Central Cultural Space.
