At the beginning of November, within the framework of the Architecture and Construction Week organized by the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Girona, the Girona Demarcation of the College of Architects of Catalonia and the Bonart magazine present two conferences dedicated to the work of the architect Arcadi Pla i Masmiquel in Montserrat, a career that extends over more than three decades.
The first session will take place on Monday, November 3 and the second on Thursday, November 6, both in the Rafael Masó room of the COAC. The first conference will review the projects developed between 1987 and 2000, which began with the rehabilitation of the roofs of the Basilica of Montserrat and expanded to other interventions in the site, such as interior cleaning, the renovation of technical networks and the restoration of the Santa Cova complex.
The second session will focus on the most recent actions, such as the Museum access projects and the reorganization of the exterior squares, which have redefined the relationship between open spaces and visitor flows. If time permits, Pla will also present the New Montserrat Hostel, inaugurated in 2019, a work that completes his global vision of the complex.
These conferences offer a unique opportunity to learn firsthand how architecture can dialogue with history and landscape, transforming the way we perceive and travel through one of the most emblematic places in Catalonia.
