The new permanent gallery of the Botín Centre brings together seventeen works from the Jaime Botín collection and, in the itinerary created from Point and Counterpoint: Masters of the 20th Century , the title of the exhibition, works by leading artists of the Spanish and international scene such as María Blanchard, Pancho Cossío, Juan Gris, José Gutiérrez Solana, Manolo Millares, Joan Miró, Isidre Nonell, Pablo Palazuelo, Joaquín Sorolla, Antoni Tàpies and Daniel Vázquez Díaz will be on display, sharing space with some of the most significant international artists of the 20th century such as Francis Bacon, Henri Matisse and Mark Rothko.

Many of the styles of the last century are present in the path forged by the Botín Center, such as expressionism, abstraction, enlightenment, the poetic painting created by Joan Miró, passing through the new figuration of Francis Bacon, the fauvism of Matisse, and the abstract expressionism of Mark Rothko.
All of them managed to create a pivotal place through innovative, personalized works and the development of their own language within each 20th-century movement. Aesthetics, harmony, and cohesion are found in each work exhibited in Punto y contrapunto from the Jaime Botín collection . “A serene unity thus emerges, despite the fact that they belong to two relevant moments in art history: the avant-garde and postwar art, in the years following World War II, when new modes of representation emerged,” Salazar notes.

In an alphabetical order, Bacon opens the exhibition with Self Portrait with Injured Eye from 1972, followed by Cubist Composition by María Blanchard and Harlequin by Juan Gris. Tàpies closes the exhibition with Woman in Red from 1931. Ultimately, this new and expanded collection of works takes us into Jaime Botín's particular microcosm, revealing to the viewer not only the richness and diversity of 20th-century art, but also the profound connection between artistic creation and human experience.
A member of the Botín Foundation's Board of Directors since its creation in 1965, and vice president of its board of trustees since its establishment in 1996, the works in this room are the best testament to Jaime Botín's social and philanthropic commitment.
