Fictions: Narrative in Contemporary Art at CCEMx
The Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico brings together Spanish and Mexican artists in a reflection on the limits and possibilities of visual art.
The construction of fragmented and emotional stories based on exploring themes such as identity, memory and history, this is the exhibition Fictions. Narrative in contemporary art. Curated by Ferran Barenblit, it is a collective exhibition with works by Spanish and Mexican artists that can be seen at the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico (CCEMx), in collaboration with the Zapopan Art Museum (MAZ) in Jalisco and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
The reflection on the limits and possibilities of narrative experimentation in visual art will be joined by these emotional dimensions that complement and dialogue with literature. It is important to think about building new stories that are a vision of reality. This is an exhibition that was inaugurated within the framework of the Guadalajara Book Fair (FIL) 2024 where Spain was the guest country of honor.

Analysis, interpretation and stories of contemporary art is the beginning and starting point of the subsequent relationship between art and literature. Thus, we see how this path delves into an increasingly visual world and invites us to stop and reflect on the stories that surround us. By exploring narrative fragmentation and linguistic diversity, the exhibition transports us to construct our own interpretations and find new meanings in contemporary art.
The performance by Los Torreznos (artistic tandem composed of Rafael Lamata and Jaime Vallaure) marked the beginning of the inauguration within a collective with eleven Mexican and Spanish artists such as Alan Sierra, Ignasi Aballí, Isa Carrillo, Mabel Palacín, Gonzalo Elvira, Dora García, Irene Solà or Teresa Solar among others, in addition to the participation of consonni, an independent publishing house from Bilbao. Each of the works in the exhibition, which can be visited until October 5, represents a commitment to producing subjectivities, to translating individual and collective experiences into stories that, when interpreted, reveal how history is constructed.
