Josep Maria Mejan's drawings at the Faculty of Medicine
A collection of anatomical plates created during adolescence invites us to rediscover the relationship between art and scientific dissemination.
On April 29, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona (Carrer Casanova, 143) will inaugurate a very unique exhibition that includes a total of 50 sheets of paper on anatomy, science and neurology. These works were created by the artist and painter Josep Maria Mejan (Barcelona, 1942) when he was only 17 years old.
Passionate about science and art since a very young age, Mejan recently proposed donating this collection to the Faculty as a sign of his commitment to knowledge and scientific dissemination. Now, years later, the Faculty of Medicine has decided to make this valuable collection, which combines art and technical rigor with great sensitivity, public. The plates can be visited in the main lobby of the Faculty, in an exhibition open to all citizens.
At the same time, Mejan has announced that he plans to inaugurate, starting on July 19, a solo exhibition at the Espai Art 60 in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, where a selection of his paintings, sculptures and ceramics will be on display. This exhibition will be open until August 31 of this year. It should be remembered that Josep Maria Mejan also has a permanent showcase at Carrer València, number 44 in Camprodon, where a significant part of his work is continuously exhibited.
A self-taught artist, Mejan began in the visual arts with a strong interest in landscape, and his career has led him to exhibit in major galleries in Barcelona, Andorra and the United States, as well as participating in international art fairs in Madrid, Tokyo, Spain and Belgium. In 2011 he founded the artistic group El Club del Pinzell de la Vall de Camprodon and currently resides in Llanars (Girona).
