First there was Espai 10, active since 1978, then Espai 13 would arrive at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona and the years pass with a program full of contemporary art, exhibition power, artists, vitality, dynamism, always based on the dissemination of current trends with cycles like the current one. 2025 arrives with a new program, like from here , curated by Carolina Jiménez, examining links between art and place to imagine alternative forms of coexistence.
Four exhibitions by artists to create an exhibition journey with Josu Bilbao, Paula García-Masedo, Ludovica Carbotta and Marwa Arsanios. Proposals that are born from different questions and inquiries that derive from Carolina Jiménez. What separates here from there? Who has the right to become a member of a community? When can we say that we really belong to a place? What does it mean to say “we”? How can a community be built without a place? How can forms of solidarity and coexistence be practiced without falling into extractivist, appropriationist approaches or speaking on behalf of others?
The starting shot is given by Josu Bilbao (Bermeo, 1978) with negarràk-negarrà . A montage in Espai 13 that starts from the starting point of a possible opening of the room -always captivating the viewer and visitor to go down the stairs and head towards this very important room of the Miró Foundation-, seeking a sensitive exploration of the changes accumulated in its architecture over the years.
The Basque artist has created a delimited intervention linking dimension, space and time on some ventilators conceived in his day by the architect of the building Josep Lluís Sert. Bilbao interrogates the same exhibition space with an ephemeral installation/intervention within a room that allows this same space to be heard, with music and sound by Estanis Comella. A thread that gives all the attention to the receptive, sensitive and sensorial element, always in parallel with the artist's way of creating, where language and orality in languages in extinction are always present to expand and take off towards sculpture as a material and sensitive practice that produces physical and sensorial spatiality.
Until March 30th, you can visit negarràk-negarrà , establishing this overlap between the architectural space and the artistic object developed in conversation with the GOIG architecture studio (Pol Esteve Castelló and Miquel Mariné Núñez). A proposal, the first of this cycle curated by Carolina Jiménez, where space and the relationship we can have with the place are questioned and how this place can condition art. The witness will be taken by Paula García-Masedo who will begin her exhibition on April 10th until June 29th.
