Quim Packard: Collapse better

The Tarragona Provincial Council Museum of Modern Art (MAMT) is hosting one of the most relevant exhibitions in its program this year. Under the title 'Collapse Better' and curated by artist Quim Packard , this exhibition invites us to reflect on the role of cultural institutions in a context marked by ecological collapse, proposing new ideas on how they could face the social, environmental and educational challenges of the contemporary era.

Quim Packard , known for his underground aesthetic, uses drawings made with a pen and various installations in the exhibition to establish an analogy between the museum and the liquid, which can be both polluting and polluting. Thus, the artist questions the traditional and conservative model of artistic institutions, asking whether they are capable of responding to the social and ecological challenges of the moment. This critical vision comes at a time of global environmental emergency, where ecological collapse directly affects our way of conceiving art and culture. The deputy of the Vale Pino Provincial Council has assured that this “is a very suggestive exhibition because it brings us closer to a very topical issue such as the ecological collapse that the planet is suffering. There are more and more indicators that warn of the deterioration of our natural heritage and of decent living conditions in the world. And this is where the role of institutions comes in to reverse the situation, or at least to stop it. And this is where culture, the critical spirit of cultural reflection, must also come into play.”

The exhibition, which can be visited until March 30, also includes collaborative projects such as 'I am the shadow and its magnetic insects', a work by Ariadna Guiteras in collaboration with Diversorium . This installation takes the form of poufs designed to offer a more intimate and accessible experience to the visitor, inviting them to sit and reflect in a different way with art, more in tune with the new challenges of society.
