The Espai Guinovart Foundation , faithful to its mission of promoting dialogue between different forms of artistic expression and valuing Catalan cultural heritage, will host the exhibition 'Between tradition and the avant-garde', an exhibition that links the works of two of the great masters of Catalan contemporary art: Antoni Clavé and Josep Guinovart .
Both artists, with a multidisciplinary work that encompassed painting, sculpture, engraving and poster design, among other disciplines, used their creations in a space of experimentation, where reality acquired a new dimension, demonstrating a clear desire to erase the boundaries between everyday experience and artistic creation, merging art and life into an inseparable unity. Both also stood out for a deep critical spirit and a firm commitment to society. Both Clavé and Guinovart actively defended Catalan identity, its culture and its values, and their involvement in the events of their time is reflected in a work full of symbolism and denunciation.

A recurring aspect in the work of both creators is the iconography of the head, which becomes a central element in their artistic universe. In addition, they share a deep interest in material exploration and the incorporation of humble and everyday objects into their creations, endowing them with a new poetic dimension. This relationship with materials and matter also leads them to coincide in engraving as a form of experimentation, expression and plastic research.
The exhibition, curated by Conxita Oliver , presents a careful selection of works that allows us to follow the evolution of the two artists and explore the points of connection between their creations. The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on February 2 and can be visited until May 25, has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of institutions and private collections, which have lent the works especially for this occasion.
