Exhibition inspired by Nathalie C. Barney at the La Mercè Cultural Center
bonart girona - 31/01/24

Until February 2, you can visit the exhibition of plastic arts and photographs inspired by the figure and work of the novelist, poet and activist Nathalie Clifford Barney and the freedoms of LGBTIQ+ people. Clifford, who was a feminist, pacifist and enemy of all social impositions, was a pioneer in the defense of the rights of LGBTIQ+ groups. Substantially rebellious, openly lesbian, reckless proselytizer and generous patron, Miss Barney was a pivotal figure in the history of Western literature. It should be remembered that this exhibition was inaugurated last January 20 on the occasion of the 17th edition of the Pepe Sales Festival in Girona.

'Sewing Cities' by Pere Bellès

On the other hand, you can also visit the temporary exhibition "Sewing Cities" by Pere Bellés (Terrassa, 1965) until March 1, 2024, which is organized by the Municipal Art School of Girona. In this exhibition, Bellès offers us a visual route through the city in search of ascribed memory, searching for a dialogue with space and with the territory that forms part of everyone's imagination. In short, it shows us a great palimpsest of humanity's most complex and extraordinary creation, the city. Bellès decided to walk through all the streets of Terrassa with his mobile camera in hand but without any intention of systematically recording elements decided a priori. Only with the will to look and to walk. In the words of Bellés "Although many things can be bequeathed in these photographs, I am interested in the city from the forms". As for the artist's pictorial, graphic and object-based work, this has been widely exhibited since the late nineties. Bellès has produced a wide range of graphic and pictorial works, but he has also produced large-scale sculptures and small objects. A work that he usually organizes in series as a way of ordering the creative process.
