The Jeu de Paume contemporary art museum is re-presenting Martin Parr's exhibition Global Warning , a show that reveals the widespread disorder and chaos of our time through various series created from the late 1970s to the present day. For fifty years, consistently and in different corners of the world, Parr has portrayed the imbalance facing the planet and the consequences of our idle lifestyles.

Through his numerous series, which began in the British Isles and Ireland and have spread since the 1990s to all five continents, he addresses recurring themes: the murkiness and ravages of mass tourism, the domination of the automobile, technological dependencies, consumer frenzy, and even our ambivalent relationship with life.

Parr, with his singular and unconventional gaze, has photographed all the major identified causes of climate disruption in the Anthropocene era: rampant transportation, fossil fuel consumption, global consumption, environmental damage, and more. His work, which may seem innocent and has a touch of humor, is related to the British satirical tradition—an incisive humor and a bittersweet mockery—but, beyond that, it presents a direct reality through a critical, indirect yet profound lens.

The exhibition features some 180 works spanning more than half a century of production. From his early black and white pieces to his most recent works, the exhibition addresses our contemporary turmoil through recurring themes, motifs, and obsessions. Ultimately, it is a portrait of our time: a cry of alarm against a consumer society trapped in constant escapist dynamics that divert our attention from the planet's real problems.
