JUSTMAD 2026 takes over Madrid as a stage for emerging art
bonart madrid - 04/03/26

From March 5 to 8, 2026, the Palacio de Neptuno will once again host one of the most exciting events on Madrid's cultural calendar. The JUSTMAD International Contemporary Art Fair celebrates its seventeenth edition as part of Madrid Art Week, a period that transforms the city into a major hub for creation, debate, and the art market, centered around events such as ARCOmadrid and other satellite fairs. Since its inception, JUSTMAD has established its own identity as a platform dedicated to emerging art, a space where new proposals, developing talents, and experimental projects find visibility and engage in dialogue with collectors, professionals, and the general public.

The 2026 edition boasts a renewed and ambitious profile: 42 galleries comprise the program, almost half of them debuting, underscoring the fair's commitment to embracing new voices and diverse approaches. Hailing from 11 countries, these galleries showcase a wide range of artistic practices that reflect the pulse of global contemporary art. One of the most notable features of this edition is the strong female presence, with 81 female artists representing approximately 60% of the participating artists, a reflection of a structural shift in the cultural ecosystem where the research, voice, and production of female creators occupy a central place.

The fair is structured around various curatorial axes that broaden the visitor's perspective. Alongside the main program, there are sections such as Solo Projects, which highlights individual projects by selected artists, and JUST Latam, a specialized space that brings together proposals from Latin America under its own curatorship, with the participation of galleries from countries such as Argentina, Venezuela, the United States, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Paraguay. Spaces like JUST Residence continue their work in an extended format: prior to the fair, four artists participated in a residency in Segovia, developing projects linked to the rural and environmental context that will be presented during the fair, underscoring JUSTMAD's commitment to connecting creation, territory, and community.

The program extends beyond the pavilions with a parallel offering of performances, talks, and urban activities, filling various squares and streets in the center of Madrid with art and critical thought. One of the most innovative proposals of this edition is Just Off, which brings the artistic experience to the Barrio de las Letras (Literary Quarter). During the fair, Calle Verónica and nearby squares are transformed into an urban laboratory, where interventions, performances, talks, and participatory activities bring contemporary art closer to the public in an open and accessible format. This initiative seeks to democratize art, inviting residents and visitors to discover and experience contemporary creation in the everyday spaces of the city.

JUSTMAD coincides with the intensification of Madrid's art scene, which during the first week of March hosts a host of fairs, exhibitions, and cultural events surrounding ARCOmadrid. This series of events transforms the Spanish capital into a global meeting point for artists, gallery owners, collectors, and international audiences. In this context, JUSTMAD stands as a space where the search for talent, formal experimentation, and cultural diversity intertwine, offering visitors a fresh and insightful look at the trends shaping the art of today and tomorrow.
