The exhibition hall of the Girona Urban Property Chamber hosts, until April 30, the exhibition EXILIS by the artist Jimena Lucas , a proposal that invites us to reflect on childhood exile through various artistic disciplines. The exhibition, which opened on Thursday, April 3, is the result of a project sponsored by the Atrium Artis Foundation , a private Girona institution with the aim of promoting critical thinking and reflection through art.
EXILIS presents a series of installations that combine elements such as children's clothes, suitcases and other objects that evoke the situation of forced displacement, suggesting the reality of children's exile. A distinctive aspect of the works is their intention to lack faces, thus seeking a universal identification of the viewer with the figures represented. This approach transmits a feeling of loss, separation and pain, but also of shared identity, giving voice to a reality that is often made invisible. EXILIS' proposal also aims to bring contemporary art closer to the general public. The artist's desire is to use art as a tool for social transformation and as a means of communication, making it accessible to everyone and breaking the barrier of elitism that often surrounds the art world. In this sense, the exhibition seeks to encourage critical thinking and open a dialogue on current social issues that are often left out of public debate.

Jimena Lucas, born in Uruguay in 1979, began her training in art under the influence of the master Torres García, learning with his disciple Ricardo Sánchez from 1995 to 2000. Her work is marked by an interest in Constructive Universalism, a proposal that seeks to organize geometric forms from a mystical vision of proportion and order, using universal symbols and creating a mathematical concept of the organization of the Universe. This influence is evident in many of her creations, where order and symmetry play a prominent role, although human emotion continues to be the driving force behind her works.
Lucas's career, which has been a finalist in more than eight national awards over the last two years, reflects his growth and consolidation as an artist. He has held a total of nine solo exhibitions throughout Catalonia since 2016, in addition to participating in prominent collective exhibitions such as that of La Santa in Madrid or that of the Miramar Cultural Center in Sitges in 2024.
