The Art Gallery La Catedral de Tarragona presents an exhibition in tribute to Xavier Aluja i Guasch , a Tarragona painter who celebrates half a century of artistic career. The exhibition, made up of 24 oil paintings of various sizes, allows us to take a journey through the stylistic evolution of an artist who has been able to capture the essence of the Mediterranean landscape with great sensitivity.
Xavier Aluja (Tarragona, 1950) is a figurative painter who moves between impressionism and expressionism, with a fresh and spontaneous brushstroke that reflects emotions more than reality. His work is characterized by a strong poetic charge, in which color and light are key elements to transmit sensations and moods. For Aluja, painting is a way of communicating with the world, a form of free expression in which personal perceptions are transformed into images full of strength and energy. From a very young age, Xavier Aluja showed a great inclination for drawing and painting. Unlike other artists who are attached to specific movements or schools, Aluja has always wanted to maintain his stylistic independence, moving away from established fashions and trends to build his own language.

The landscape has been a constant source of inspiration in his work, especially the natural environments of Tarragona and the lands that surround it. The fields, the villages, the sea and the Mediterranean light become the protagonists of his canvases, but always reinterpreted under his personal gaze. Throughout his career, he has been awarded in numerous painting competitions, both nationally and internationally, and has exhibited in several cities in Spain and France, such as Tarragona, Reus, Barcelona, Lleida, Valencia, Ceuta, Vigo, Paris, Toulouse and Montesquieu, among others. His work is part of multiple public and private collections, consolidating himself as one of the most outstanding artists in the Tarragona scene.
The exhibition, which will be on view until April 7 at La Catedral Art Gallery, is an opportunity to get to know the work of this artist in depth. The 24 selected pieces allow us to see the evolution of his career, from his earliest works to his most recent, always maintaining the essence of his figurative style, marked by experimentation with light and color.
