Pep Domènech, an artist from Sabadell, died on January 23 at the age of 76. Considered one of the pioneers of conceptual art in Catalonia, Domènech was part of the movement during the seventies, contributing to it alongside artists such as Fina Miralles and Benet Ferrer. His career was characterized by a deep involvement in the plastic and visual arts. He participated in prominent exhibitions, such as the Art d'Objectes Catalans exhibition at the Fundació Joan Miró and the Postal Art exhibition at Metrònom in 1981. More recently, in November of last year, he presented his work at the Art Postal exhibition in Ull d'Escala.
In addition to his role as an artist, Domènech was an important teacher and worked as a photography professor at the Escola Illa in Sabadell, where he also held the position of director between 1980 and 1998. His commitment to local culture was reflected in his defense of the Sabadell Art Museum. He was one of the promoters of the Manifesto for the Museum, an initiative that denounced the abandonment of the museum by the City Council and which led to the creation of the Association of Plastic and Visual Artists of Sabadell.
