The call for applications for the Sant Andreu Contemporani SAC-FiC program, an annual artistic residency that goes beyond just offering a work space, has opened. Based at Fabra i Coats – Fàbrica de Creació de Barcelona , this program is aimed at three visual artists who want to develop a project between January and December 2025, immersed in an experience that combines creative work with intensive training, visits from professionals and an ongoing support network.

Those selected will not only have a space to work on their project, but will participate in an exclusive stage, an intensive and personalized process with the guidance of a visual arts professional. This format allows each artist to delve deeper into their creative process with the help of an external voice, with whom they can explore essential aspects of their work, while receiving regular visits from curators, critics and other industry experts.

Applications can be submitted from November 1 to December 5, 2024. The selection process will be carried out by Marc Anglès (artist), Gisela Chillida (researcher and curator) and other members of Sant Andreu Contemporani . The SAC-FiC residency program proposes a model of creative coexistence in which artists not only create, but are also nourished by a community and a network of professionals who redefine the boundaries of artistic practice. The rules can be consulted on the website of Sant Andreu Contemporani .

The Sant Andreu Contemporani team accompanies every step of the way, providing support and guidance while the artists work on their pieces, which will eventually be presented within the Sant Andreu Contemporani program, as is the case with the exhibition ' common substrate A new archeology of matter', currently at Fabra i Coats until November 24.

This exhibition highlights matter as a fundamental and transformative element: the invisible and apparently inert that hides under any change and that constitutes the basis of all creation. In this context, 'Substrat comú' highlights how matter becomes both a subject and an artistic method, offering a starting point for multiple narratives that explore the deep meanings and forms it can take in the creative process.

The exhibition brings together the finalist works of the Miquel Casablancas 2024 Call for Visual Arts - which every year offers prizes that include everything from the purchase of work to grants for production, mediation and graphic communication - as well as three projects developed in 2023 in the frame of the residences of Sant Andreu Contemporani , and invites the public to decipher the construction processes of the works through sculpture, installation and audiovisual.

The exhibition brings together a variety of approaches and sensibilities, each with particular concerns but with a shared interest in exploring the materiality of things. Artists such as Marc Anglès, Isabel Bonafé, Natalia Domínguez, Mikel Escobales, Albert Gironès, Marina González Guerreiro, Gala Hernández López, Hodei Herreros Rodríguez, Abel Jaramillo, Claudia Rebeca Lorenzo, Lucas Marcos Barquilla, Jara Roset, Laia Ventayol García and Lola Zoido transform materials and objects in reflections that move between the ephemeral and the persistent, the visible and the hidden. It is a collective portrait of a generation that wonders where the materials it handles come from, how these condition its works and in what way they anticipate transformations not yet seen.
