Art as a reflection of its time

The Marc Domènech Gallery will exhibit 'Esther Boix. paintings 1955-1975', a selection of emblematic works by an artist who evolved into an expressive and psychological style, criticizing the injustices of the Franco regime against women. Mayoral will present two samples: 'Barcelona 1978-92. Canon and anticanon', curated by Vicenç Altaió, with works by Ferran García Sevilla, Francesca Llopis, Jaume Plensa, Joan Gelabert (Dalí JR), José Pérez Ocaña and Miquel Barceló, portraying the artistic dynamism of Barcelona during the 80s; and 'Agñipé' by Catalina León, with works created between 2014 and 2024, using materials such as canvas and plaster to update pictorial stories.

ADN Galeria will present two artists: Eugenio Merino, who explores power structures through irony and sarcasm, and Julio Anaya, who reinterprets icons such as Picasso, Miró and Tàpies with a combination of homage and demystification.

Pigment Gallery will present 'Double coding' by Sito Mújica, an exhibition that explores the idea of "non-authorship" and imitation, highlighting the artist's interest in the methods of representation and classification of images in search engines and artificial intelligence

Zielinsky Gallery will present 'Gladiators of the Future' by Claudio Goulart, a series of works developed between the 1970s and 2000s in Amsterdam, which address themes such as the body, politics and time with rich artistic experimentation.

Sculptural reinterpretation, installations and their arrangement in space

Several Barcelona Gallery Weekend exhibitions explore sculptural reinterpretation and the arrangement of objects in space.

In Ángels Barcelona , Lúa Coderch will present 'Scene', combining objects and sounds to reflect on the immediate experience, on what we think and feel; while at Bombon Projects , Lara Fluxà will offer 'Firefly', with sculptures and installations using fragile materials such as water, air and glass to explore the fragility of ecosystems. Carles Congost, at House of Chappaz , stands out for the hybridization of artistic languages with a selection of pieces that combine photography, moving image, object, painting and drawing; while at Dilalica , Beatriz Olabarrieta and Mario Santamaría will present 'A Corner in Wheat', re-articulating the gallery space in a new form using the old walls, floor marks and perforations from past exhibitions.

Lluís Lleó will show 'Painter' at Taché Art Gallery , with a contemporary and conscious reinterpretation of the history of art through paintings, papers and sculptures; and Richard Wentworth, in Prats Nogueras Blanchard , will recontextualize one of his historical pieces for the current exhibition. RocioSantaCruz will inaugurate 'He returned with sacks of red earth and waste', Lionel Sabatté's first solo exhibition in Spain, with sculptures, paintings, photographs and drawings made with rejected materials (dust, dead skin, nails or clay); while SUBURBIA CONTEMPORARY will present 'From, Maybe To' by Gianluca Iadema, exploring the intersection between music, visual art and architecture with metal sculptures and structures that engage in dialogue.

Uxval Gochez Gallery will show 'Wrapped' by Yeonsu Lim, with drawings and proposals to wrap public sculptures in Barcelona, including 'Mitjó' and 'Homage to Picasso' by Antoni Tàpies, and 'Der Morgen' by Georg Kolbe, at the Pavilion Mies van der Rohe. The exhibition will be completed with additional sculptures created in situ during a performance.

Finally, at Víctor Lope Arte Contemporáneo , Beate Höing will present 'It is all about love', with ceramics that combine kitsch and traditional craftsmanship with an imaginative dimension.

Abstract painting, social background landscapes and surreal still lifes

The galleries of L'Hospitalet during the Barcelona Gallery Weekend will offer an eminently pictorial program.

Galería Alegría will present still lifes by Jorge Diezma, with works of fish and fruit on sea rocks, balancing tragedy and humor; at the same time, Philipp Röcker will exhibit imposing sculptures that will create interactive spaces for visitors. Ana Mas Projects will inaugurate 'Enodia' with abstract paintings by Michael Lawton, using a palette inspired by the Greek goddess Enodia; Fabio Viscogliosi, at L21 Barcelona , will show 'Grenouille Vagabonde', with works on domestic environments, everyday objects and humanized animals. At ethall , Rasmus Nilausen will present 'Idée Fixe', a site-specific installation about firm ideas and feelings of doubt.

Returning to Barcelona, at 3 Punts Galeria , Jan Schüler will exhibit 'German Landscapes', landscapes with defined shapes and smooth surfaces with colors inspired by German cities such as Dresden, Frankfurt, Weimar, Düsseldorf or Berlin. Finally, at SENDA , Gino Rubert will present 'Cariatide', a series of small works with solitary figures that explore sensuality and restraint.

Sala Parés will offer a photographic dialogue between Michael Kenna and Toni Catany, with images of Venice from the 80s that reveal connections between their perspectives. At ProjecteSD , Jochen Lempert will exhibit black and white photographs that reflect his poetic vision of nature and his deep knowledge, backed by his training in biology.

Artur Ramon Art will present 'Another imagination. Jordi Ortiz + 373 trees', with Jordi Ortiz's project focused on the visible and expressive side of Barcelona's tree trunks, which highlights their evolution.

FUGA , for the first time at Barcelona Gallery Weekend, will show 'winters while waiting' by Nieves Mingueza, which addresses online gender abuse through photomontages, assemblages, sculptural structures, text and found photographs.

Finally, Chiquita Room hosts 'The Appearance of a Distance' by Louis Porter, which explores the distance between ideas and human beings through photographic techniques, scientific and educational materials and various materials collected from street markets in Barcelona and London.
