February 16 at 11 a.m. the inauguration of the Walter Benjamin Library located in the building of the old schools and old town hall of Portbou will take place. After the Walter Benjamin House project was presented at the beginning of August with all the parties involved and, later, at the Frankfurt Fair, this week it will be possible to visualize the space that will house the future Benjamin library. In these works, the Ministry of Culture has invested 60,000 euros and the Diputació de Girona has added 40,000 for the installations. For its part, the City Council has contributed 22,000 euros and, finally, the Angelus Novus Foundation has also collaborated with the furniture, contents and books. All this represents the first step in the global reform of the entire building with an estimated budget of 3 million euros.
In the Benjamin library, which occupies about 90 square meters, it will be possible to consult the funds obtained by the Angelus Novus Foundation over the last few years, among them the precious volumes and documents of the Gian-Luigi Ponzano and Philippe Yvernel libraries. Once deposited, the members of the Foundation will start cataloging them with the aim of making them available to the public. It is worth mentioning that the library shelves have been financed by a patron of the Foundation.
