bonart: 25 years of history
On November 19, 1999, issue 1 of the magazine bonart was presented . An initiative by the art critic and cultural manager Ricard Planas Camps, with the complicity of the artist and collector Anna Maria Camps Sauri and the journalist and media specialist Narcís Planas Gifreu. Twenty-five years later, the Bonart Group has, in addition to the paper edition of the magazine, a cultural manager and a digital newspaper www.bonart.cat
THE GENERATOR . The first issue, with a white, conceptual cover, with the central logo and the names of the collaborators and sponsors in small print on the front, consisted of 68 pages with offset paper and its price was 250 pesetas. A legacy that was inspired by the legacy left by relevant publications such as Papers d'Art, Pèl i Ploma, Cave Canis or D'Ací i d'Allà. Currently, the bonart magazine in paper also has an international edition in Spanish for Spain, Portugal and Latam that was presented in March 2025 at the Arco Fair in Madrid, at the stand of the Miguel Marcos gallery, with a cover by the artist Bernardí Roig and with the accompaniment of museologist Manuel Borja-Villel and the artist Lola Lasurt.
BONART MIRACLE EXHIBITION and THE MIRACLE CONTINUES . After reaching all over Catalonia, Northern Catalonia, the Valencian Country, Andorra and the Balearic Islands, Bonart took another step forward by going international and going to the Frankfurt Book Fair, with a special edition in German. We have been present, and continue to be, at fairs all over the world such as Loop, Swab, Arco, Art Madrid, Just Mad, De Arte, Fira d'Art Eivissa, Porto Arte, Saló Antiquaris, Arts Libris, Fira Fama, Fiart València... In February 2008 we published the 100th issue. The collection of one hundred months was reflected with an exhibition at the Fontana d'Or cultural center in Girona, under the advice of the artist Enric Ansesa. During these years, bonart has been a member of APPEC and, later, of ARCE. The Lluís Coromina Isern Foundation inaugurated in April 2025 the exhibition celebrating the group's 25th anniversary entitled "Bonart, the miracle continues".
25,000 PAGES, 450 CONTRIBUTORS AND DIGITAL EDITION . The 68 pages of the first issue have now become 200 color pages. In twenty-five years, 25,000 pages have been published and the Bonart quarry has given way to more than 450 contributors. The Bonart newspaper library collects the artistic events of our country, in addition to a complete series of articles by prominent art critics, artists, museum directors, gallery owners, politicians, writers, philosophers, journalists, researchers... The digital newspaper has more than 50,000 opinion articles, interviews, reports and published news.
CULTURAL MANAGEMENT. The Bonart Group has carried out extensive work in the world of cultural management. During 2005 and 2006, it organized the Catalan art fair INART, the experimental music festival REMOR, as well as an important task of publishing artist's books and exhibition catalogues... Bonart edited the last issue of Papers d'Art of the Espais Foundation and directed the foundation. Likewise, bonart has been responsible for curating exhibitions of prominent contemporary art authors such as Joan Fontcuberta, Carles Pazos, Arranz Bravo, Modest Cuixart, Antón Lamazares, Enric Ansesa, Romà Vallès, Pere Formiguera, Lluís Vilà, Rafael Marquina, André Ricard, Yurian Quintanas, Franc Aleu, Xavier Escribà, Roca D. Costa, Bernardí Roig, Joan Brossa, Cabosanroque, Albert Serra... It has also advised and collaborated on cultural events such as the Carles Fontserè Year. A very important area has been the presence with events in the third sector. Participation in TV3's La Marató by painting a giant mural or an exhibition of outsider artists, with the Estany Foundation, Mas Casadevall and Integralia Foundation, are some of the outstanding examples.
FUNDACIÓ LLUÍS COROMINA ISERN. Since 2010, Bonart has been responsible for the artistic and social aspects of the Fundació Lluís Coromina Isern in Banyoles, which oversees the work of Lluís Vilà, Carles Fontserè and Rafael Marquina and has a space specialized in art and food and the Puntal, an arts laboratory. In December 2014, Bonart Cultural launched the cultural project Focus Engelhorn in Palamós to boost social, cultural and landscape activities. In this initiative, it has had the support of creators such as Marcel·lí Antúnez, Albert Serra and Francesc Guillamet. During these years, the publishing house and management company has also had an intense relationship with the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia.
AWARDS. Bonart received, in its second year of existence, the award for best magazine granted by the Association of Periodical Publications in Catalan (APPEC). Subsequently, APPEC also awarded us the award for best publisher. The Association of Art Critics of Catalonia, in the same year (2012), awarded Bonart for its work in favor of the world of arts. Ricard Planas and Anna Maria Camps received the award in the MACBA auditorium. The Association of Young Entrepreneurs awarded the director of bonart, Ricard Planas, in 2012. The Official College of Interior Decorators and Designers of Catalonia awarded the VI Lluís Cairó Award to the magazine in 2009. And the Guild of Art Galleries of Catalonia also awarded the magazine's work in 2022.
THE FUTURE. Internationalization with the launch of the Spanish edition, especially focused on Latin America, and the reinforcement of the cultural management. Likewise, the creation of the advisory board has served to reinforce and support new projects, while the content of the magazine and the digital edition is reinforced with the publication of books with the history of Bonart and the first articles of the collaborators, as well as one dedicated to the covers and typography, among others.
At the beginning of 2016 and until February 2017, the co-founder and director of Bonart since its inception, Ricard Planas Camps, left the management of the bonart group to join the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia as Advisor on Creation and Cultural Strategies. In May 2019, the inaugural party for the 20th anniversary was held in the Girona auditorium with the attendance of 500 people related to the world of the arts from all over the Catalan Countries.
NEWS and BONART AWARDS. In November 2025, we celebrated our 25th anniversary, and we reached issue number 200. It was celebrated with an event in Girona and another in Barcelona at the Caixaforum, with a joint attendance of more than 500 people and where the bonart awards were awarded that have recognized the work of top-level creators on the Catalan scene. At both events, a video art by Roc Parés was projected that collected the 200 covers created by the magazine during these twenty-five years, as well as the audiovisual contributions of the artist IEX Cosmonauta, responsible for introducing the award winners. Videos about the beginnings of the publishing house were also projected, and drummer Ramon Prats in Girona, and Vasco Trilla in Barcelona offered a musical performance of improvisational music. In March 2025, at the ARCO Fair we presented the first issue of Bonart internacional.
